Lovis Heuss (they/them), a trans-disciplinary artist from Zurich, utilizes sonic experiences and multi-faceted performances as a medium to challenge the gender binary and other forms of normative hegemonies.
Lovis’ artistic practice fuses sonic and performative exploration, often converting elements into spatial installations which metamorphose into dynamic spaces for public engagement and discourse. Sonically Lovis explores beyond genres of the urban electronic music scene, always closely involved in the discourses of diversity, access and visibility within the club culture.
In their performative expressions, Lovis intertwines movement. music and drag with elements of pop culture and personal intimacy, navigating the complex terrain of queer community issues such as normativity, embodiment, and trans-queer-crip intersectionalities.
Their work is always interlocked in collective practices and community – making and sharing knowledge, giving voice, and making space for marginalized experiences. Consequently, a key element of their practice includes the active involvement of other queer/trans/non-binary artists, creating (safer) spaces, making room for vulnerability, support, and empowerment, thereby fostering community engagement.
